What are MB Finals?
These exams are usually held every May to assess the fifth year medical students from the University of Cambridge before they graduate to the final year of medical school. There are about 300 students who will be assessed over 4 days.
Each of the students will perform a series of 6 assessments to demonstrate their clinical skills. We test a variety of skills, some using videos and photographs, but we prefer to have at least 1 assessment that involves ‘real’ children as we feel this is a more realistic test of the students’ clinical and communication skills.
What do we have to do?
We’d like to ask you and your child to attend for one or more sessions of the exam, each lasting for about 2 hours. The exam is held in The Deakin Learning Centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Please be aware that if you participate that this does not replace the need for routine checks with your health visitor.
Will it cost us anything?
NO! We can reimburse you for travelling expenses and parking while you are at the exam. The children will also receive a small financial token (£12.50/session or £50/day) for their attendance.
Sandwiches and refreshments are provided and trained staff are available to entertain children, with toys and other activities. Most children who have taken part in previous years have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
What’s next?
The next set of exams is to be held on Monday-Thursday, 22-25 May. If you wish to join the fun, or have any further questions before you decide, please contact Vanessa on
