On Friday 24th June 2022, the Department of Paediatrics held a hybrid Academic Symposium in Celebration of the life and career of Professor David Dunger. The day was comprised of talks and recollections from David’s colleagues, friends and family and the messages we received in honour of David were passed onto his family.
Talks were recorded and shared with permission from the speakers. Please note, some talks were pre-recorded in advance and others were recorded via Zoom on the day. Apologies for any disturbance in quality.
Introduction from Professor David Rowitch, Head of the Department of Paediatrics:
Dear Symposium Participants
I want to add my note of thanks to Vicky Stevens, Ken Ong and Jane Horsford for organising what was by all accounts an excellent event in honour of David Dunger.
The reviews have been very positive with the possible exception of my formal introduction. Apologies, but pouring my heart out on a Zoom video is not my preferred method. So, I would like to add that David was a constant source of support and advice for me as I took on the role of head of department in paediatrics. His dedication to his patients, staff and the research shone brightly through and are reflected in the talks that you can now access here:
David has left a void in the department, which has affected every member of our staff. I am glad we could hold this symposium, which was a credit to his memory and an inspiration to our future endeavours to benefit people with Type 1 Diabetes and endocrinologic conditions.
Please feel free to share the talks with colleagues and thanks again for taking part in this event.
