PhD in Paediatrics student / Paediatric intensive care clinical fellow
John is undertaking a PhD in Paediatrics at the University of Cambridge from 2019-2023, as the first Department of Paediatrics Gates-Cambridge scholar (gatescambridge.org). He was also awarded an honorary Cambridge Australia scholarship.
John has undertaken the majority of his paediatric training at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne Australia, completing his paediatric fellowship examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018. He subsequently undertook a clinical fellowship with the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh.
He is investigating infection in critically ill children, under the supervision of Dr Nazima Pathan (Department of Paediatrics), Prof Gordon Dougan and Prof Stephen Baker (Department of Medicine). His PhD will explore epidemiology of infection and antimicrobial resistance in the PICU, rapid diagnostic testing for infection and the prevention of antimicrobial resistance through selective decontamination of the digestive tract. John hopes to become a future leader in infection in critically ill children as a clinician-researcher in Australia.
